Proposed Merger with Fort Peck Community FCU
What is being proposed?
Fort Peck Community Federal Credit Union is proposing to merge into Daniels-Sheridan Federal Credit Union. Daniels-Sheridan would remain the continuing credit union.
Why is Daniels-Sheridan pursuing this merger?
The merger offers an opportunity to strengthen regional credit union service in Northeast Montana, add members and communities, improve operating scale, and combine the strengths of two financially sound community-based credit unions.
Where does the merger process stand?
The NCUA has approved the proposed merger to move forward to a vote by Fort Peck Community FCU members.
Do Daniels-Sheridan members vote on the merger?
The formal member vote is being conducted by Fort Peck Community FCU, the merging credit union.
When will the Fort Peck vote take place?
Voting is expected to begin around mid-October, with a Special Meeting of Fort Peck members scheduled for December 4, 2026.
When could the merger become effective?
If Fort Peck members approve the merger and the remaining regulatory and legal requirements are completed, the organizations expect to move toward merger completion and begin integration in the new year.
Will this change my Daniels-Sheridan accounts right away?
No. Daniels-Sheridan members should continue using their existing accounts, cards, online banking, and other services normally.
Will Daniels-Sheridan remain the continuing credit union?
Yes. Daniels-Sheridan Federal Credit Union would be the continuing federally chartered credit union.
Will existing Daniels-Sheridan branches remain open?
There are no merger-related plans to reduce Daniels-Sheridan’s existing branch presence.
What happens to Fort Peck’s locations?
The current plan is to maintain Fort Peck’s existing branch presence and continue serving those communities locally.
What happens to Fort Peck employees?
Fort Peck employees are expected to join the combined organization. Retaining their experience and local relationships is an important part of the transition plan.
How does this benefit Daniels-Sheridan members?
The merger creates a larger regional organization with greater scale, an expanded membership base, additional market presence, and opportunities to spread investments in technology, operations, products, and services across a larger credit union.
Is the combined credit union expected to remain financially strong?
Yes. Both organizations enter the merger from sound financial positions, and the combined credit union is expected to maintain a strong capital base.
Will there be changes to technology or systems?
Over time, Fort Peck operations will be integrated with Daniels-Sheridan’s systems. Management teams are already planning the conversion carefully to minimize disruption for members of both credit unions.
Will the credit union’s regional identity change?
A longer-term regional branding strategy may be considered after the merger and integration. Any future branding would be designed to reflect the broader communities served while respecting the histories of both credit unions.
